Made In

Project Description: In a hack-a-thon setting, my partner and I were challenged to address fast fashion and labor exploitation in the garment industry. With this challenge we created Made In, a family oriented educational application that promotes purchase awareness through highlighting ethical brands and fair trade education for families.

Research

In order to familiarize ourselves with fair labor practices and sustainable brands we conducted a mitigated research process, due to time constraints. I completed a literature review to better understand the exploitation of garment workers. To scope our work, we decided to focus one families due to the natural patterns of over comsumption with children changing interest and growing and the wear and tear of clothes. With this research I completed a brand audit of ethical brands such as Patagonia, Mightly, Pact and other ethical brands.

Wire-framing

With our research in mind, we moved to wire framing our application. We wanted to highlight ethical brands and fair labor certified baby outfits. See examples to the left.

Key Pathways

  • Education

With this pathway, our application provides educational content for users and their families. This content includes podcasts, videos and articles about living wages and clothing purchases.

  • Shop

With this pathway our users can see recommended brands and clothing items that are fair trade certified. This pathway also highlights the clothing swap option.

  • Impact

With this pathway, users can measure their impact and see a report of their education progress and most recent clothing purchases.
